Enhancer of vaginal anatomy EVA
As your gynaecologist in Sydney and Norwest, I also offer EVA treatment: Enhancer of Vaginal Anatomy. It is a radio frequency treatment to improve the lining of your vagina. The treatment is known to firm up the vagina, correct urine leakage, reduce vaginal dryness ( which in turn reduces pain in sexual intercourse) as well as rejuvenate the external appearance. Eva treatment is currently available at my rooms in Norwest only.

What is EVA?

In simple terms, gentle dynamic quadripolar radiofrequency energy is used to provide a safe, comfortable and brief treatment, in four sessions of around 15 minutes each. The energy is applied internally, and works on toning and strengthening the loose vaginal tissue and the urethra to reduce leakage on coughing, straining and exercise as well improve sensation on intimacy. The EVA treatment can also be applied to improve the sensitivity of the labia and clitoris.

Who is EVA suitable for?

As your gynaecologist, I listen to your symptoms, and we discuss your medical and gynaecological history, before planning any treatment.

In general, the ‘enhancer of vaginal anatomy’ treatment is suitable if you:

  • Experience mild stress incontinence, or involuntary urine loss when you make an effort, sneeze or cough, or engage in sports activities
  • Experience vaginal looseness after childbirth or reduced pleasure after having babies
  • Experience vaginal changes with age, dryness or itches
  • Want to reverse ageing changes of the external genitalia

If you are unsure if EVA is right for you, book an appointment and we will discuss your personal circumstances and the details of the treatment.

When you are scheduled for EVA treatment you should have had:

  • A gynaecological examination within 1 year of treatment. The purpose of a focused gynaecological examination, which can include visual inspection of the external genitalia, detailed vaginal examination, and rectal examination, is to assess underlying gynaecological pathology based on your symptoms and history.
  • Cervical cytology with human papillomavirus testing can also be performed based on screening guidelines. Importantly, any underlying active infection will be identified and appropriately treated according to evidence-based and evidence-informed guidelines. This type of evaluation and examination should be conducted before your EVA treatment.

What to expect from the EVA treatment?

EVA is actually a radiofrequency device, used by qualified and experienced gynaecologists. There are no post-treatment symptoms, which means that you can resume your normal daily activities the same day (including physical intimacy).

One session takes 12 to 15 minutes only. Patients report a gentle, warm sensation and no pain or discomfort. Still, we give you a handheld button, so you can switch off your treatment immediately. It is not common, but just gives you that extra level of control and peace-of-mind.
When we start, I will guide you through the process, and it is good to know that the approved medical device has all the required safety functions to switch off automatically when needed.

How many treatments do I need?

General treatment cycles consist of four sessions. It is common to feel improvements even after one session, and yet I recommend finishing the cycle just to ensure longer lasting benefits and optimal results.

There is insufficient evidence about the optimal number of treatments. The benefits may last up to a year, and then we can re-evaluate so you make a well-informed decision should you choose to plan another round of treatments.

The scientific evidence behind EVA treatment

There is currently a lack of strong Level 1 evidence for use of vaginal energy devices for the treatment of vaginal laxity, stress urinary incontinence and vaginal dryness.

There is a clinical consensus statement though, drafted by the American Urogynaecology Society, agreeing that energy-based devices have a beneficial effect on sexual function in the short term. It is unknown whether the treatment offers better success rates than pelvic floor exercises or sling surgeries in women with mild stress urinary incontinence. EVA is an effective treatment for treating vulvar pain or vaginal dryness.

I come from a family of doctors and it has always been my intuitive first choice to become an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. I basically grew up in it, with my father being one of the co-founders of a series of IVF clinics in India. Care for mothers and the babies they are expecting has always been my first nature and I am grateful for being able to serve my patients in their journey.
So if you are in that phase where you are not sure how to choose a private obstetrician in Sydney, let’s have a chat so we can plan your antenatal care together.
